More about Teri-Lee, the heart of Tutchone Tours

Teri-Lee and William live the Traditional Northern Tutchone lifestyle. This is evident not only in their work life, but in their home life as well. Cultural practices like hunting and fishing are an integral part of their lifestyle and they ensure that these practices are passed on to their children. Not only do these practices allow Teri-Lee’s family to be self-sustaining, but it also keeps these traditions alive for generations to come.

She is deeply connected to the land with strong memories of her own childhood, raised by her grandmother and spending a great deal of time at Fort Selkirk. Teri-Lee and others in her community think of it as their ancestral home. She has vivid memories, as a child playing in the historic buildings, pretending to be teachers and students in the old schoolhouse. With age she now understands the significance of the cultural aspects and history of Fort Selkirk.

Teri-Lee, the heart of Tutchone Tours

A graduate of the Yukon University & Heritage and Culture Program, Teri-Lee has a wealth of knowledge about the region’s culture and history, and has operated tours on land and water. Recognizing a gap in local tourism services, Teri-Lee started Tutchone Tours, an Indigenous owned business that offers expert led guided boat tours to Fort Selkirk.

She and her partner, William Smith, operate these tours always considering safety as a number one priority. The river boat tours depart from Minto Landing and offer a day trip to Fort Selkirk, return.
